I received a phone call today from one of my subscribers. We had a great conversation, but the core of the conversation centered around the feeling he had of being overwhelmed. This is a common problem when you are first getting started generating your own leads on the internet.
The problem is that there is so much information out there about list building and traffic building you can easily become overwhelmed and not have a clear picture of where to get started.

Step Two: Once you have your account set up with one of the generic systems noted above, it is time to focus on traffic generation. Your number on concern should be generating as much qualified traffic to your personalized landing page at these systems - more traffic = more leads = more money = more signups in your primary business.
All of these systems have a product or element that is offered for sale to your leads. When one of your leads purchases this product, you get a healthy commission - which puts money into your pocket.
I want to be sure and clarify one important aspect of these systems. You HAVE to purchase the product to be able to use the system, and some of the systems have monthly fees associated with them. It is very important that you understand the amount of time you will save by plugging into a premade generic lead generation system. Time is money after all.

When I first got started in Network Marketing I had big visions of growing my team quickly, and covering my monthly autoship expenses as fast as possible. Most MLM companies require some of minimum monthly purchase of a consumable product to keep you qualified to earn commissions - or to keep your business “active”. There is nothing wrong with this - other than most of the time MLM business opportunities do not spit off large amounts of monthly income, but you are rather building your business for the long term - the payoff after 2 to 5 years of work.
What happens to 95% of people that will join your team is that they will not realize income fast enough and then get discouraged. Who can blame them? Every month they see cash leaving their pockets - to cover the monthly autoship expenses - and very little to no income coming in. Does this sound like a good way to run a business? NO - and this is what most of your new recruits will be saying as well. This is one of the biggest things that leads to the huge revolving door this business has created.
So what can you do to turn this situation around? Find a way to put cold hard cash into your pocket, and the pockets of your new recruits as quickly as possible! This is where the funded proposal comes into play for your business.
A funded proposal is basically a way for you to generate income from your prospects, even if they never join your primary business. In other words you generate a lead, more than likely using the internet, and then offer them an educational product that they can purchase - without joining your primary business. This is what puts the cold hard cash into your pocket that will cover your monthly expenses, pay for additional advertising or maybe even cover your car payment!

Time…how you manage it will be the difference between success and failure in your MLM business. We all want the holy grail that network marketing can provide us, which is complete time freedom. I hear so many people that complain about not getting anything going in their business. So lets break that down a bit and see how we can change it. Personally time is also an issue in my life, but I have managed to find ways to build my business quickly, generate dozens of leads a day and make money while still having a personal life. So how do I manage my time?
For starters I use the internet almost exclusively because it allows me to leverage my time and effort. Almost everything I do on the internet will continue to provide me benefits even when I am not working. For example using article distribution, I can write an article once, post it online, and it will continue to bring in leads for months to come. Every post I write for my blog will be online for ever, and provide leads that come from the search engines.
By using a email autoresonder I can communicate with hundreds or even thousands of people per day, building relationships and gaining new friends and business associates. I could never communicate with this many interested prospects if I was doing all of my business building in my warm and hot market.
Here is what I do to carve out three extra hours I can spend building my business each day. I get up at 30 minutes earlier each morning. I work on my business over my lunch hour. I work after I get the kids to bed up to two hours.
The biggest secret is that when you sit down to work, really work! Don’t start surfing the internet or reading forums. Instead spend that time writing articles, posting videos, contributing meaningful content to forums - this is how create success. So many times I have sat down to “work” and I ended up simply wasting 60 minutes surfing the net, and not actually doing something productive to build my business.
With a little thought and dedication, you can easily carve the time needed to build a success internet based MLM business.

In any business; online, offline, MLM, retail or service - you need to have a system that allows you to both leverage your time, and provide easy training for new employees or associates. If your involved with MLM you understand that as your team grows, so does the amount of time you spend training your new associates. So what does a MLM recruiting system look like if you are building your business on the internet? For my team I use a three step system that everyone plugs into, and the best part is that it is automated.
Step 1 - Traffic Generation
Without traffic going to your web site, your business will be dead in the water. The old saying “build it and they will come” simply does not apply to the internet. So the first step in my system is to teach my new team members how to generate traffic to our landing pages. At first I only teach them how to leverage Web 2.0 and generate buckets of free traffic. Once they start earning some income to cover advertising expenses we branch off to cover paid sources of traffic.
Step 2 - Viral Traffic Generation
In addition to the traditional traffic generation system like article marketing, MySpace, Facebook, etc. we also plug into Viral Traffic Generators. These type of systems give you credits or page views. You accumulate these credits as people sign up using your link and activate their own accounts. Do you see how well this fits into a MLM marketing plan? As you team grows, you get more credits which equals more traffic to your landing page.
Step 3 - The Funded Proposal
It is very important that your system include a funded proposal. A funded proposal system allows you new team members to be in a position to profit from their leads, even if the lead never joins your primary business. Making income outside of your MLM might be a new concept for many. However, as you know most MLM companies have a minimum monthly expense to keep active - in other words you must purchase something every month. This can quickly get expensive for the new associate, and if the financial pain threshold is hit, that new associate will disappear. However, if you are using a funded proposal, it will not be hard for you new associates to earn enough to cover their monthly MLM expenses. By allowing them to earn money quickly, you will help that new associate stay in the game long enough to enjoy the residual income that is offered by network marketing.
If you follow and implement these three steps for your own MLM recruiting system, you will soon find that you have more time, more new associates, and more money than you ever had before!

Do you know what the biggest killer is of new MLM associates? The fear of rejection! Yes, it will strike every new team member, and your business, at some point in your growth. So lets talk a bit more about this killer and how to completely eliminate it.
The way most MLM organizations teach you to grow you team, and in fact the way I was taught to grow mine originally, is to work in your hot or warm market. Almost every organization teaches you to build a list of names, and start contacting them and introducing your business.
What happens very quickly is that you brand new baby associate starts hearing “no” - and if all they hear is “no” you are very lucky. Chances are what they will hear will be even worse, and much more critical. This is when they fear of rejection starts to set in, and will quickly kill their business if left unchecked.
The fear of rejection actually affects any person involved in sales. I have two young sons that are involved in Cub Scouts. Every year they sell popcorn for their primary fundraiser. This year the boys really wanted to work hard and sell tons of popcorn. So the first day we headed out into the neighborhood full of excitement.
Guess what happened? The first five houses we went to all said “no” to them. I could see their excitement beginning to diminish, they did not have the glimmer in their eye when we started. The good news is that we did start selling, and they quickly realized that they were getting more purchases than denials, and they kept at it and succeeded in meeting their goal!
Of course, in this example we are dealing with kids emotions. However, in MLM we are dealing with adults, and very real financial concerns and elements of personal pride.
For most new associates after they hear “no” or “are you crazy, this is a pyramid”, the fear of rejection will overcome them and they will disappear into the night never to return - and even more disturbing, their dreams are gone as well.
So how can you turn this around, and give your new associates a way to have more leads then they know what to do with? Get them started building a list of subscribers using the internet, and even better get plugged into a system that provides income, training, and leads.
By using the power of the internet you can literally build relationships with hundreds, if not thousands, of individuals. How do you do this? By having a high conversion landing page and an email autoresponder.
The autoresponder allows you to leverage you time and communicate your message with more people on a daily basis than you could ever communicate with face to face.

3. Duplicatible Prospecting System: When you got started with your MLM company were you provided with a system that anyone could actually plug into? If you were told to make a list of 100 names, this is not a system anyone can plug into - in fact most will not, which is why we have such a high failure rate in this industry. You need a system that is very easy to duplicate, a downline builder that does most of the work for the new recruit. For instance, if all they have to do is drive traffic to the landing page of your system, this is a skill that can be easily taught. However, if they have to learn HTML, set up a blog, etc, etc, all before they can start using the system, you are probably settting yourself up to fail.

I admit it I am somewhat of a MLM news junkie. If you read any of the forums you have may have heard about the uproar between Barry Minkow of Fraud Discovery Institute and Usana Health Sciences. I won’t get into all the legal filings, of which there are plenty, but I thought this was an interesting story to discuss for a bit.
You see, Barry likes to go after Network Marketing companies. This time he has chosen Usana Health Sciences as his target. Of course Usana has fired back, and the court battle is ensuing.
Barry has made at least 7 videos as of this time and posted them on Youtube. What he did was go out and find disgruntled Usana reps and interview them. They are real tear jerker’s - people have spent tons of money on their businesses, and not made a dime. Of course Usana can point to people that have done well.
However, the facts speak for themselves, over 95% who get started with a network marketing business fail - this includes Usana and all the other top rated companies out there. Barry would like you to believe that this problem is exclusive to Usana - it is NOT!
The real problem lies in how people in any Network Marketing business are trained to build their companies. You see most MLM companies use the same tired tactics - make a names list, go to hotel meetings, bug your friends, hack off your family, purchase leads, yadah, yadah, yadah!
It simply takes to long for most associates to build a team big enough to actually enjoy the residual income that network marketing can create. While they are waiting for this to happen, they are spending hundreds of dollars a month on products, training cd’s, etc. Most new distributors quickly run out of money and quit.
The solution to this problem is build a business around you. So your business is “You Inc.” and you just happen to be a distributor of XYZ company, but you also have many other profit streams that bring in the big cash while you are slowly building your MLM business.
This is the solution - listen closely - generate your own leads, build relationships with those leads over time, sponsor some of the leads into your primary business AND profit from all those leads that never join your primary opportunity.

So your a Melaleuca representative working hard to build your business. You have burned through your friends a family. Now what?
